The Indonesian Filament Fiber and Yarn Association (APSyFI) projects that the production volume of the upstream textile industry will grow to 1.9 million tons this year.
Chairman of APSyFI Redma Gita Wirawasta said this figure grew from the production volume before the pandemic in 2019 of 1.82 million tons, with details of 630,000 tons of polyester fiber, 600,000 tons of rayon, and 590,000 tons of filament yarn.
"[Production volume] will be able to return to 2019, it will even be slightly higher, at least 5 percent than before the pandemic," said Redma, Tuesday (11/1/2022).
Redma said that this year's production volume growth was influenced by the domestic market, which had begun to move with more relaxed mobility compared to last year. Industry performance in 2021 is also expected to grow around 1 percent after contracting for three consecutive quarters.
"If you look at the third quarter, it's still negative, but the negative is down. In the fourth quarter, looking at our performance in upstream production, there seems to be a very significant improvement, so the 2021 projection is around 1 percent," he explained.
According to Redma, this year's projected growth is also influenced by the stagnant flow of imports as a result of the imposition of two security measures import duties (BMTP), namely for fabric and garment products.
"Now the demand has started to improve, plus imports are holding up, so we can take over the import market," he said.
Previously, the Director of Textiles, Leather and Footwear at the Ministry of Industry, ELis Masitoh, projected that the growth of the textile industry would reach 5 percent in 2022 and 1.37 percent in 2021. The certainty of industrial operations during the pandemic is considered to foster trust among customers so that domestic export orders continue to arrive.
